What do you need to renew your driving licence?
Renewing your driving licence can be a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be. What documents do you need to renew your driving licence?
First and foremost, you will need to gather all of the necessary documents before heading to your nearest NaTIS office. These include:
- Driving Licence Renewal Notice; OR Application for Renewal of Driving Licence form if Renewal Notice is not available.
- Certified copy of Namibian ID; OR Clear copy of Traffic Register Number Certificate; OR Valid Namibian Driving Licence Card.
- Expired Driving licence Card:
• Hand in expired Driving Licence Card – Affidavit required if card is not presented
• Affidavit/explanation letter for late renewal (Expiry more than 12 months, but less than 5 years)
• Driving Licence expired more than 5 years – Complete Retest will be required for Learners Licence (Regulation 113, as amended).
How much will it cost to renew your driving licence?
Next, you will need to pay the fees associated with renewing your license. The fee is N$200.00 for production of the card (an additional N$30.00 for Proffesional Authorization holders (PA) is charged).
How long will it take to renew your driving licence?
It’s worth noting that the driving licence card production takes approximately 3-6 weeks (applicants are urged to apply at least 6 weeks before the driving licence card expires).
Also, an additional N$50 is charged for issuing a temporary driving licence if the card is renewed after it has expired, so it’s best to renew your license in a timely manner to avoid additional fees.
