NSFAF REQUIREMENTS FOR FUNDING: UNDERGRADUATE, VOCATIONAL AND POSTGRADUATE
NSFAF REQUIREMENT For Undergraduate degree programmes at Local Institution
Undergraduate Studies at Local Institutions To be eligible for NSFAF funding for undergraduate studies at a local institution, you must meet the following NSFAF requirements:
- Obtain 25 points in grade 11/12 in five subjects with a minimum of E symbol in English.
- Have a diploma at NQF level 6 from an accredited institution of higher learning with a minimum of 22 points in five subjects in grade 11/12.
NSFAF REQUIREMENT For Undergraduate Studies at International Institutions
Undergraduate Studies at International Institutions To be eligible for NSFAF funding for undergraduate studies at an international institution, you must meet the following NSFAF requirements:
- Obtain 35 points in grade 11/12 in five subjects with an E symbol in English for medicine and engineering fields.
- Obtain 30 points in grade 11/12 in five subjects with an E symbol in English for other fields of study.
NSFAF REQUIREMENT For Undergraduate Diploma Programmes at Local Institutions
Undergraduate Diploma Programmes at Local Institutions To be eligible for NSFAF funding for an undergraduate diploma program at a local institution, you must have obtained 22 points in grade 11/12 in five subjects with a minimum of F symbol in English.
NSFAF REQUIREMENT For Undergraduate through Mature age (Applicable for Public Institutions only)
Undergraduate Through Mature Age (Applicable for Public Institutions Only) To be eligible for NSFAF funding as a mature-age student, you must meet the following NSFAF requirements:
- Be 23 years of age or older.
- Have a grade 10 certificate with five years of minimum working experience.
- Have a grade 11/12 certificate with three years of minimum working experience.
- Be able to top up if funding is insufficient for the intended course of study.
- Provide proof of admission on mature age level from the institution of higher learning including the mature age entry test results.
NSFAF REQUIREMENTS FOR VET FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Vocational Training Centers (VTCs) The requirements for NSFAF funding for vocational training centers are as follows:
NSFAF REQUIREMENT For Government or SOE owned VTCs

- Full-time/part-time applicants studying at approved vocational training centers.
- Priority will be given to applicants studying priority fields of study as determined from time to time to qualify for funding.

- Full-time/part-time applicants studying at accredited and recognized VTCs offering accredited qualifications.
- Obtain a minimum of 20 points in grade 11/12 in six subjects with an F symbol in English.
- Obtain admission at an approved VTC in Namibia studying towards minimum NQF level 1 and maximum NQF level 6 qualification.
- Priority will be given to private VTC beneficiaries studying priority fields of study as determined from time to time to qualify for funding.
International NSFAF requirements for VET trainees
International Requirements for VET Trainees To be eligible for NSFAF funding for vocational training abroad, you must meet the following requirements:
- Obtain 25 points in grade 11/12 in five subjects with a minimum of F symbol in English.
- Financial assistance may be offered in the event of direct transfers from local to international VTC institutions if the program or level is not offered in Namibia.
- Priority will be given to applicants studying abroad in priority fields of study if the program/level is not offered in Namibia.
NSFAF REQUIREMENT FOR POSTGRADUATE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
To be considered for postgraduate financial assistance from NSFAF, applicants must meet the following NSFAF requirements:
- Pursuing a postgraduate degree: This can be a Diploma/Honours, Master’s or PhD program, or research-based postgraduate study.
- Prior undergraduate qualifications: Applicants must have already obtained a Bachelor’s degree (level 7), Honours degree (level 8), or Master’s degree (level 9). Or, have completed their studies but are waiting for their graduation to be officially recognized.
- Enrollment in an approved institution: The applicant must be admitted or enrolled to study on a full-time, part-time, or distance mode at an approved local or international institution of higher education.
- Priority fields of study: Only applicants studying towards priority fields of study will be considered for funding.
- Provisional admission proof: Applicants should submit proof of provisional admission with their application.
- Preference for local and SADC institutions: Preference will be given to students studying at local institutions within the SADC region.
