Namibia, like many other countries, faces the challenge of a shortage of trained youth development educators. The Diploma in Youth and Community Development (DYCD) aims to address this issue by equipping youth workers with the professional competencies necessary for effective youth development work.

Objectives of the Diploma in Youth and Community Development Program:
The DYCD program is designed to equip youth workers with appropriate skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to train other youth in development work. It aims to promote equal opportunities for life-long learning for youth workers and educators and to provide a foundation for creative and questioning intellects. Additionally, the program aims to prepare youth workers to perform their duties effectively and produce graduates with employability skills to meet the challenges they face.
Admission Requirements:
To be eligible for the program, applicants must have a Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary (NSSCO) level qualification with a minimum of 22 points on the Ministry of Education’s point scale in five subjects as well as an E-symbol in English. Alternatively, any other relevant and equivalent qualifications at NQF level 5 and/or pre-qualifications from a recognized institution of higher learning are also acceptable.

Program Content:
The program consists of 17 modules and two institutional core modules. The modules cover a range of topics, including English for General Communication, Introduction to Computer, Commonwealth Values in Youth Development Work, Young People in Society, Principles and Practice of Youth in Development, Working with Youth and their Communities, Gender and Development, Youth and Health, Project Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation, Management Skills, Learning Processes, Policy Planning and Implementation, Conflict Resolution, Strategies and Skills, Promoting Enterprise and Economic Development, Sustainable Development and Environmental Issues, Orphans & Vulnerable Children Programme Management and Policy Development, and Psychological Support of Orphans & Vulnerable Children.

Delivery Method:
The program is offered via distance mode combined with face-to-face online virtual tutorials. Students are required to meet the tutor-marker for a minimum of 16 hours per module during the duration of the program. They must also attend two compulsory workshops: orientation and examination preparation. The program is delivered at NQF level 6, with a level of complexity measured at the diploma level covering knowledge, comprehension, application, and analysis.
Fee Structure:
The registration fee for semester 1 is N$2690.00, which must be paid upon registration. The remaining amount should be settled by May 31. A once-off data fee of N$690.00 is charged upon registration, providing 10G of data each month for the whole year. The registration fee for semester 2 is N$2000.00, which must be paid upon registration, and the remaining amount should be settled by September 30. The total fee, including the compulsory data fee, for the program is N$9 850.00.
